Week 2 - Exploring Education and Virtual Worlds

Week 2: Jan 19 - 25

Overview

This week there will be an interactive Second Life practice session and also field trips to different educational spaces.  One tour will be conducted by a guest speaker who directed the build of an educational space for English literature students and teachers.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this week, you should:

  • know your colleagues on the VW&LL EVO even better
  • have increased your skill and comfort level with the main tools for interaction and communication
  • have learned how to use some of the more advanced features of communication (e.g. calling cards, developed your SL profile more fully, taken a photo inworld)
  • been on a guided tour of an innovative and creative educational space in Second Life that will inspire you to think outside the box with using virtual worlds for language learning
  • collaboratively explored and evaluated at least one general educational space in Second Life (not the guided field trip above)

Activities

  1. Attend a synchronous 1-hour session and work in a group to practice communication, navigation, movement, profile completion and taking snapshots inworld
  2. Post your reflections on the activity into the VW&LL Ning
  3. Attend one of the scheduled guided tours of an English Literature sim with Dr Angela Thomas from the University of Sydney, take photos while there and post these and your reflections to Ning and/or Flickr (tag your snapshots with vwll2009)

Hm, it seems this week hasn't been updated yet at all.
How did we miss that?
